I downloaded the software, adjusted my audio settings, but when I talk I don't get a response.

hmm, do you have a hotkey set up? go to the setup section of the programme, and tab to hotkey. press the key you want, then root jaws to pc to go find the okay button. then. when you want to talk, just hold down the key that you chose, and if it works, you should hear a click like sound

How do you root jaws to PC? I have a laptop and the only command I know involves the numb pad on a desktop.

gosh, i'm honestly not sure how to do it on a laptop. i've only done it on a pc myself. sorry.

i don't know about jaws cuz i use windoweyes and feel totally lost with jaws to be honest, but isn't there like a laptop layout for the keyboard or something?

Get an external num pad from bestbuy or somewhere that you can plug in to your USB port.
Otherwise you'll have to switch the jaws keyboard set up to laptop or something and have someone teach you those commands.

just push caps lock + the left bracket, and to get back, push caps lock plus semi colon.

SF, that is assuming that the keyboard layout is set to "Laptop" in Options>Basics.
